Screen Capture Tools

Screen capture is great for additional information when reporting defects.

Here's a list of tools that I've previously used:

cropperCropper is a unique screen capture utility that allows you to capture portions of your desktop and automatically save the output to a file, copy it to the clipboard or send it to a printer. It offers a resizable, translucent capture area that can be moved and sized freely to capture the portions that you want to grab. The program also includes a thumbnail feature that can automatically resize the capture and save it as thumbnail version instead. Cropper can save images in BMP, JPG and PNG format. Download here

snapshotSnapashot is a simple screen capture tool, that allows you to capture any area on your screen. It provides a resizable frame that can be dragged over the area to be captured, and the option to copy the snapshot to the clipboard, or save it as image file (jpg, gif, bmp, tiff, png). No installation needed, as long as you have the .Net framework. Download here

fireshotFireshot is a Firefox extension that creates screenshots of web pages (entirely or just visible part). Unlike other extensions, this plugin provides a set of editing and annotation tools, which let users quickly modify web captures and insert text annotations and graphical annotations. Also works with IE7 & 8. Download here

I'm always on the lookout for free easy to use tools. Let me know if you find some : - )

Maybe good additions to this post are the checklist of criteria for selecting a screen capture tool at http://www.indoition.com/screen-capture-tool-choosing.htm, as well as the list of screen capture tools at http://www.indoition.com/screen-capture-tools-survey.htm.
